Use Canva to Create Before/After Job Photo Posts
What This Does
Canva's AI-powered design tools let you turn your CompanyCam before/after photos into branded social media posts — complete with your logo, ratings, and a call to action — in about 10 minutes. These posts work on Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram and generate referral inquiries from neighbors.
Before You Start
- You have a free Canva account (canva.com)
- You have before and after photos exported from CompanyCam (or your phone's camera roll)
- You know your company name, phone number, and Google review rating
- Time needed: 10 minutes first time; 5 minutes once you have a template saved
- Cost: Free (Canva free tier is sufficient)
Steps
1. Find a Before/After Template
Go to canva.com and in the search bar type "before after social media post." Select "Facebook Post" or "Instagram Post" size depending on where you'll share it. Pick a template with a split layout — left side for before, right side for after.
What you should see: Templates with two image slots side by side or stacked, often with "Before" and "After" labels already on them.
2. Upload Your Job Photos
Click Uploads in the left sidebar, then click Upload files and select your before/after photos from CompanyCam (export them first to your phone or computer). Once uploaded, drag your "before" photo onto the left panel and your "after" photo onto the right panel.
What you should see: Your actual job photos appear in the template layout.
3. Use Magic Write to Add a Caption
Click on any text element in the template. Click the Magic Write sparkle icon (or find it in the text toolbar). Type this prompt:
"Social media caption for a roofing company's before/after job photo. Storm damage replaced with [SHINGLE TYPE] shingles in [CITY/NEIGHBORHOOD]. Mention our 4.9-star Google rating and offer a free inspection for neighbors."
What you should see: A short, punchy social media caption (2–4 sentences) with a call to action.
4. Customize the Text Elements
Edit the generated caption to include your exact:
- Company name and phone number
- Location (neighborhood or city)
- Shingle brand if notable (e.g., "GAF Timberline HDZ")
- Any relevant certifications
5. Add Your Company Logo
Click Uploads → upload your logo file → drag it onto the post. Resize it to fit neatly in a corner. If you don't have a logo file, type your company name in a bold font in the corner.
6. Download and Share
Click Share → Download → choose JPG for social media or PNG for better quality. Post directly to your Facebook business page, personal Facebook profile, or Nextdoor neighborhood group.
Real Example
Scenario: You just completed a full roof replacement at 88 Cedar Ave after a wind storm. You want to post about it to generate referral calls from neighbors.
What you type into Magic Write: "Social media post for a roofing job just completed at Cedar Ave. Full replacement of damaged shingles after May wind storm. 4.8 stars on Google. GAF-certified installer. Offer neighbors a free inspection."
What you get: "Another Cedar Ave roof protected — this one got hit hard by last month's storm. We replaced the entire damaged section with GAF-certified shingles. Got damage on your street too? We're offering free inspections to neighbors. 4.8 stars on Google. Call [phone] today."
Tips
- Post within 24–48 hours of job completion while the neighborhood memory of the storm is fresh.
- Tag the neighborhood or city in your Facebook/Nextdoor post to show up in local searches.
- Save your best-performing template in Canva as a "Brand Template" so all your team reps use the same branded format.
